BALLYLUMFORD DOLMEN |
This Single-Chambered grave was erected between 2000-1500 BC & local finds in the immediate locality would indicate occupation in the early Bronze Age and is Ireland’s most easterly Portal Tomb. It is situated in the front garden of an Edwardian house, on the summit of a steep sided N/S ridge on the Islandmagee peninsula over-looking Ballylumford Bay. The tomb consists of three angular basalt slabs resting on which is a very large capstone, tilting slightly to the back. Lying within the chamber is a recumbent slab. |
