AUGHADANOVE PORTAL TOMB
AUGHADANOVE PORTAL TOMB, COUNTY ARMAGH
This portal tomb, marked on the OS map as ‘Portal Grave’, is sited on a SW facing
slope, protected by a modern enclosing fence and is also known as ‘The Oul’ Grave’.
The capstone is missing from this portal tomb but otherwise the structure is in tact.
The chamber, 1.2m E-W x 1.3m N-S, is formed by side-stones & a back-stone varying in
height of between 1.07m - 0.9m. The portal stones, separated by a sill stone 0.45m in
height, are at the south end & are 1.3m & 1.05m in height. Little remains of the
enclosing cairn but a stone, 0.45m in height & 4.5m in front of the portals, is firmly
embedded and maybe part of the monument. The chamber is partially filled with
smaller stones & some modern refuse.
