This portal tomb is marked on both the OS map and the historic map as ' The Banshee
Stone', a reference to the mythical Celtic Messenger of Death. It has a displaced
capstone which measures 3.7m in length, 2m in width, 0.35m in depth and it originally
rested on two portal stones and a door stone. Its partly collapsed chamber is orientated
east and there is no clear evidence of a cairn or mound. The tomb is located 300m west
of the Glasheroge stream which feeds into the Mountain River, itself a large tributary
for the River Barrow to the west.
