GLENOGE STANDING STONE |
PHOTO by Pip POWELL MAR 2010 |
A fantastic grooved stone which is typical of the standing stones in Carlow, like those at Ardristan and Ballyellin. It is not as tall as Ardristan, measuring 1.8m in height, 1.6m in width and 1.5m in depth with the north face of the stone vertical while arching down to the south. On the eastern side of the stone are three deep grooves that stretch almost the full length of the stone and on the western side is a deep single groove that spirals towards the north. It is sited on the top of a small hill,in the middle of a cultivated field overlooking the river Burren and within sight of Baunogenasraid linkardstown tomb 500m to the north-west and is known locally as 'Cloghstailragh'. |
