|DRUMEAGUE WEDGE TOMB
|This well preserved wedge tomb gallery, aligned roughly SSW-NNE, is sited in good
pasture land, on a low hillock, & is located north of Bailieborough (Coill an
Choillaign). The tomb, marked on both the OSI & Historic maps as ‘Giants Grave’,
consists of two outer wall stones to the north & south and a façade stone standing
forward of the north side of the gallery. The structure stands in a mound 9.5m in
length, 7m in width & 1m in height. The main chamber, 5.5m in length, is closed by a
tall, transverse slab at the west. In front of this a small stone, on which rests a
displaced slab, that may form the south side of a portico. Six stones form the north side
of the main chamber, five remain at the south end, and it is closed by a low back-stone.
The eastern pair of stones on both sides are stepped in from the line of the others and
are markedly lower than them.
