MAUGHANACLEA MULTI-STONE CIRCLE |
This great multi-stone circle is located in a pasture on a shoulder on the north slopes of the Maughanaclea hills, overlooking the Owngar river valley. The circle is not complete but appears to have consisted of thirteen stones. Twelve survive, five of which, including south entrance stone are prostrate. The orthostats measure 1.6m to 0.8m in height,7m to 2.1m in width and 0.3m to 0.5m in depth. The internal measurement of the circle along the main axis, which is aligned NE-SW, is 11.3m. Two boulder-burials, 1 & 2, stand within circle. |
