GLENCULLEN STANDING STONE |
Known locally as ‘Queen Mab’, this large & impressive quartz standing stone, 1.83m in height, is located on the edge of a golf course, close to the main road through the village of Glencullen ( Gleann Cuilinn ) in the mountains of south County Dublin. Apparently there was another similar stone near the old church in the village and in 1837 Eugene O’Curry was told by the locals that the two stones had been ‘used by the Danes for playing the game of Rings, one standing on one side and another at the opposite side and pitching the ring to each other alternately but how the game ended, they do not remember’. |
