Often referred to as the "Mount Venus Dolmen", this portal tomb is located on lands
belonging to the D.S.P.C.A on the Mount Venus road, on the east facing slope of Mount
Venus Hill and is marked on the OSI map as "Dolmen” and on the historic map as
"Cromlech". It is sited 200m east of the Owerdoher River which joins the River Dodder
at Rathfarnham, (Rath Fearnain), with Cruagh Mountain (Sliabh na Craobhai) to the
south, Tibradden Mountain (Sliabh Thigh Brodain) to the south east and Kilmashogue
Mountain (Sliabh Chill Mochiog) to the east. The giant capstone, which measures 6m
in length, 3m in width and 1.9m in depth, has slipped off the portal stones, of which
one, 2.4m in height, remains standing. The other is now lying under the capstone in the
chamber against a small thorn bush. Another erect stone, possibly a side stone, stands
beside the tree but without any other stones present; it is hard to define the size of the
chamber.
