

| BALLYNACLOGHY PORTAL TOMB |

| This portal tomb, not marked on the historic map, is located 30m from the east shore of Lackanaloy Creek, on a gentle SW facing slope, in south west Galway. The partially collapsed tomb, orientated E - W, consists of a large, rectangular capstone measuring 2.4m in length, 2.2m in width and 0.60m in depth, which is leaning heavily against the north portal stone and side-stone and pushed the south portal stone and side-stone outwards, having slipped into the chamber. There are two well-matched portal stones, 1.6m in height, a small back-stone and a chamber measuring 2.3m in length & 1.8m in width. The entire structure is sited in a slight hollow, on an oval mound 8m in diameter. |
