BALLYNASTAIG WEDGE TOMB
An almost complete Wedge Tomb with a massive capstone and enormous side stones
still in place. Some of the cairn stones that are at the front of the tomb have been
removed but the rest are in place. Inside one can see that the
capstone is beginning to
crack and there is some farm debris. The chamber is almost 5m long,1.5m wide and is
just under a 1m high. Tons of
cairn material still remain on top and beside the tomb
but the whole monument is covered by brambles and thorn bushes. Maybe thats not a
bad thing as it as it helps to preserve the tomb. Very like the wedge tombs in county
Clare, not surprising since it is only 15km NE of the Burren.
