CARTRON SOUTH STONE CIRCLE |
This fine stone circle is located near the top of Knockdrumore Hill on the NE ridge, just north of Ballin Lough. The circle, not marked on the OS map, has no definite solar orientation but may have an astrological or lunar alignment. The circle consists of nineteen thin slabs, five now recumbent, ranging in height from 1.2m - 0.40m and all are aligned, side on, to the centre of the circle. Inside the circle is another small orthostat which is positioned slightly off-centre to the SW, indicating a possible solstice connection. |
