

| CLOONLOOAUN PORTAL TOMB |

| This great portal tomb is located on the south slopes of a rocky hill, 3 km SE of Renvyle, west of the town of Clifden (An Clochan). The tomb consists of two upright portal stones, measuring 1.8m & 1.6m in height and in between is s door-stone 1.2m in height. The chamber, 2.3m in length & 1.4m in width, faces SW and two side-stones remain upright on the SE side. The NW side-stones have fallen into the interior of the chamber and are now covered in soil. The dis-placed capstone, measuring 2.4m in length, 1.55m in width and 0.20m in depth, now lies to the NW. Beside the capstone is an animal pen which seems to have been constructed from material from the cairn. The whole tomb is sited on a level platform or mound, 10m in diameter. |
