GRAIGEAGOWAN WEDGE TOMB, COUNTY GALWAY
This fine wedge tomb, marked on the OS map as 'Dolmen', is located on the NE slope
of Queenacres Hill, NW of Portumna, 'Port Umna' and west of the River Shannon. The
tomb, orientated NE - SW, consists of a gallery 7m in length, with a chamber marked
by substantial walling on the north & south sides and evidence of outer walling mostly
on the north side. A displaced roof-stone lies at the back of the tomb resting on the
back-stone. The entire structure is sited on a mound 10m in diameter approx; 2m in
height.
