| MOANMORE EAST EMBANKED STONE CIRCLE |

| This rare Embanked Stone Circle, marked on the OS map as 'Seven Monuments', is located east of the town of Loughrea, 'Baila Locha Riach' on the south side of the Tynagh Road and is a Listed National Monument. The circle consists of a 2m high, flat topped mound 14m in diameter, with a small earthen ditch on the top that slopes gently down into a flat, circular plateau. There are eight orthostats, two now recumbent, sited on top of the ditch and each one is aligned edge on to the centre of the circle. The well matched orthostats measure 2m in height, 1m in width and 0.3m in depth. At the centre of the circle is a small mound of stones, possibly a cairn and the sited is easily accessed from the road 5m away. |
