| TOORCLOGHER WEDGE TOMB |
| This great wedge tomb is hidden away three fields in from a local road in the town land of Toorclogher,west of Loughrea. Only the small middle capstone remains in place but the two door slabs and much of the double walling remain. The chamber would have been over 4m long and 1.5m wide but with the heavy growth of brambles its hard to measure. It is located on a small,maybe man-made mound in a grassy field with great views all around. Close by in a field boundary,are some huge boulders that maybe from the tomb and although the field is well farmed,most,if not all of the cairn material still surrounds the tomb. The landowner is very helpful,so please ask permission. |
