| GOWRAN OGHAM STONE |

| This ogham stone was discovered in the foundations of the chancel of the old church at St. Mary's when it was re-built as a parish church before 1849 and is now set up against the wall to the left of the altar of the re-built chancel. It has ogham script on 3 sides but the last name of the script has been chipped away by masons on the right of the cross at the base. The script reads "MAQI ERACIAS MAQI DIMAQA MUCOI". It is composed of grit and measures 1.5m in height,0.38m in width and 0.3m in depth and is set in a concrete plinth close to the wall since 1849. |
