| At last i believe i have found the legendary 'Clogh Leachdain'. This was my third time trying to locate this standing stone and i believe from the historical accounts and the present evidence, this is it.At present it stands in a field boundary dividing two south sloping fields within sight of Clopook Hill-Fort and 500m from it. It's sheer size and bulk make it an exception in this part of the country and it stands an impressive 2.8m tall, 1.3m at its widest and is 0.85m in thickness. It's physical location and measurements match perfectly with Goughs Camden account from the mid 1750's. |
| "The stone from which the Dun probably took it's name, stands in a field about half a mile distant. The name by which it goes now,is Liagan, which is a generic name for all such standing stones. It is about 8 ft high of unequal breadth, being about 4 ft 2 inches on one side in the broadest part and about 22 inches which seems to be all of an equal breadth. Some of the locals took it upon themselves to dig around the base of the stone and found that there was as much below as there was showing". This is the Clogh Liahdan in the passage quoted from Goughs Camden |
