| BALLYNAMONA STONE CIRCLE |

| This Stone Circle, marked on the OS map as 'Stone Circle', is located west of the Ballynamona River, 'Abhainn Bhaile na Mona', NNW of the village of Hospital, 'An tOspideal', on a gentle west facing slope. The circle, 15m - 20m in diameter, is now divided E - W by a field boundary and consists of 17 large, recumbent boulders on the north side, averaging 0.60m in height and three partially hidden stones on the south side. Its size and shape suggest it originally consisted of more than 40 stones and also suggests it was a contempory of the much larger and better preserved stone circle at Grange. |
