This iconic Cross Pillar, marked on the OS map as 'Cross Pillar' and as 'Standing
Stone' on the Historic Map, is located along the Pilgrim's Walk, 'Tochar Phadraig',
NE of Toberbrendan, an early monastic site and south of the town of Westport,
'Cathair na Mart'. The stone, leaning heavily to the south, has a beautiful Latin cross
in a double circle inscribed on the upper portion of the west and east faces and below is
a motif of four concentric circles, again on both faces. The stone, composed of shale,
has lost a portion off the top, taking some of the cross inscription with it on both sides.
The bottom of the stone too, has lost a portion but it has not removed the circular motif
on either side. The stone measures 2.5m in height, 0.30m in max; width and 0.20m in
max; depth.
