|Archaeologists date the Castlestrange stone to the 3rd or 2nd century BC. This egg
shaped stone is decorated all over with curvilinear designs in the style of the
Continental La Tene Celts. It was most likely ritual in purpose and together with the
Turoe Stone, Co.Galway and the Killycluggin Stone, Co.Cavan, is one of the best
Celtic decorated stones in Europe.
