| KNOCKANYCONOR PORTAL TOMB NELLIE'S ROCK |
| This Portal Tomb, marked on the OS map as 'Stones' but not marked on the Historic map, is located in good pasture land, next to a field wall, just off the N61, in the village of Lecarrow, 'An Leithcheathru'. The tomb, also known as 'Nellie's Rock', has a rough orientation E - W and consists of a large, rectangular capstone, measuring 2.4m in length, 1.8m in width and 0.60m in depth, which is resting on two well matched portal stones, 1.4m in height, a side-stone and the possible back-stone. During the 19th century, a woman took refuge under the capstone and reared a child there and this is why it is called 'Nellie's Rock'. |
