| This collapsed Portal Tomb, not marked on either the OS or Historic maps, is located next to a recently restored ancient trail, next to one of the head-waters of the Cross River, 'Abhainn na Crannai', SW of the town of Athlone, 'Baile Atha Luain'. The tomb, also known as 'Meehambee Dolmen', has collapsed due to the sheer weight of the massive capstone, measuring 4.2m in length, 2.8m in width and 1.1m in depth, and now rests on one of the rear, east & west side-stones and a back-stone. The other three west side-stones now form a wall and both the portal stones are missing. Behind the tomb, are the remains of a large cairn and other boulders are scattered around the east side of the tomb that may be connected to the structure. |
