

| CLOGHER STONE FORT |

| This fine stone fort is sited on top of a small hill with swampy marsh land to the east and south and good pasture land to the north and west. It is 30m in diameter and 100m in circumference with the walls standing over 3m in height on the outside and 2.3m inside. There are 14 sets of stairs inside that lead to the top of the walls which are 3m in depth and there are three souterrains, the largest is 20m long and runs along under the fort walls at the south-west side. The 2nd souterrain is located near the centre of the fort and has a small chamber at the end of it. The third souterrain is located beside the gate and forms a chamber under the wall. The gate is 1.5m in width and 3m in length and is orientated ESE. Access is from a roadside turnstile and is sign posted at the road. |
