DERRYDARRAGH HOLED STONE |

This holed stone which is also known as Cloch Liath, 'Grey Stone' or Cloch Bhreac, 'Speckled Stone' is located in the townland of Tobernaveen county Sligo. The Cloch Liath is sited in the area of Carrowmore megalithic cemetery and maybe from a grave chamber. Local tradition holds that it was set up to mark the meeting point of three parishes. Mothers passed sick or weak children through the hole to restore them to health and strength. The stone measures 1.9m in height, 2.6m in width, 0.18m deep and is orientated NE - SW. The hole is oval in shape, close to the present ground level and is 0.90m long and 0.40m wide. |
