|PORTLOMAN STANDING STONE
|A beautiful and slender cross inscribed pillar stone located on the banks of Lough
Owel, just north of Mullingar county Westmeath. It is made from granite and measures
1.8m in height, 0.28m in width and 0.25m in depth. It is believed to be associated with
St. Lomman of Portloman who founded a sixth century abbey close by, possibly on one
of the small islands on the lake. To the east, near the town of Fennor, is the only
surviving De Profundis Stone in Ireland.
