This standing stone is known in local tradition to mark the spot of Prince Aralt, a
Danish prince, slain at the Battle of Gleann Mama (998-999 AD), between the army
of Brian Boru, High King of Ireland and the army of Sitric, the Danish king of Dublin.
It is a conical granite pillar,about 1.5m in height with an unusual rectangular hole.
